Willis Ponds, President/CEO

Willis is a fourth generation home builder born and raised in the Low Country of South Carolina. His education includes 13 years of homeschooling which included academic as well as technical studies. The technical studies were hands-on and included remodeling the family's 90-year-old home, building several kitchens in the family's cabinet shop and running the family's sawmill.

In June 1999, after high school, Willis began working full time in the family business, Ponds Construction Co. In January, 2000 Willis was working with his father, Tony, on a historic renovation project, The Langford House at Derry Plantation. Unfortunately, during this time, his father was critically injured in a fall and became unable to work for several months. Willis stepped up and supervised the completion of the project which then went on to win awards in Southern Living magazine as well as Period Homes Magazine.

Nearing the end of the Langford House project in August 2000 Willis began attending Trident Technical College in Charleston, SC. In May 2002, he graduated with an AS degree in Construction Management with a GPA of 3.92. This degree combined Civil Engineering and Construction Management with the added benefit of real life home building experience through the Habitat for Humanity.

On August 10, 2002, Willis married Debby Burdick, one of Bill Burdick's daughters. As of September 10, 2013 they now have six children. William Henry, Jr. or "Henry", is 10 years old, Joseph Jeremiah or "Jerry" is 8, Miriam Eugenia or "Genie" is 6, Willis Sinclair or "Will" is 4, Kandice Abigail or "Kandie" is 2, and the newest member of the Ponds family, Olivia Jane.

In December 2003, Willis and his father, Tony, formed Ponds & Sons Construction. Willis became a licensed South Carolina Residential Contractor in 2004 and Ponds & Sons went on to build many fine homes over the next 5 years. Through Willis' dedication, leadership and hard work, Ponds & Sons was recognized by Inc Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in the United States in 2008. The growth was an amazing 760% over a three year period (2004 to 2007).

Willis is very knowledgeable in construction topics and works hard to stay up to date with the latest materials and methods. Although he trusts old tried and true methods, he is not afraid to try new things if they are well tested. Willis is also proficient in Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and has designed and drawn several of his projects. If you need help with your design Willis will be glad to assist you in any way he can.
