April 17 - The sub brought in a large track hoe to knock down the trees and dig the stumps. He was able to work through the rain since his cab was enclosed. He managed to get his equipment and truck (for hauling away the logs) just before the roads were closed.
April 17 - By about 3pm all except a couple of trees were down. They are sawing them to fit on their truck. They planned to take one load out yesterday evening and finish today.
April 17 - The cleared area where the house goes really looks open.
April 18 - The drive base material is a byproduct of removing railroad roadbeds. The rock from the roadbeds is crushed and used in concrete. The remaining fine rock dust and small rocks are 'waste' materials, so they are inexpensive. They also pack very well and make a superior road base. They are dark, but turn a light gray in color when they dry.
April 18 - The opening for the house looks big now, but when the house starts to go up, the area will be filled.
April 24 - The job sign is on the property. We are awaiting geotechnical soil testing which is scheduled for Monday.
April 24 - The temporary drive base is in place and makes a nice entrance to the job site.
