Heisel Residence: March 2017

March 1 - Four plants (2 pines and 2 wax myrtles) have been planted to screen the view behind the garage. The pine just to the right of the garage replaces a pine that did not survive. The yellow tape is to keep traffic off the septic drain field.

March 1 - Four wax myrtles are being 'sanded' (using sand to fill any voids) and watered by one of the tree techs. These myrtles block the view on what was a second drive.

March 1 - The Outdoor Kitchen cabinets are complete. Crown has been installed at the soffit. The bottom of the wall cabinet have plywood panels to finish them.

March 1 - The cabinets are trimmed. A hood will go between them and attach to the large exhaust pipe in the soffit.

March 1 - There are a number of shelves (and painters' lunches) stacked against the fireplace ready for paint prep (filling nail holes and sanding).

March 1 - The crown is mounted on the cabinet over the refrigerator compartment in the Main Kitchen.

March 1 - The electrician is installing an electrical outlet on each end of the Master Walk in Closet.

March 1 - The standby generator was placed in the service yard today. It will be wired and plumbed in the next week or two. It will use LP gas. The gas regulator is barely visible on the right edge of the photo.

March 2 - The beams in the Great Room are being stained. They look very dark because the wood ceiling is light colored.

March 2 - The Entertainment Center in the Study has crown on the top. We are waiting for direction to complete the recessed portion.

March 2 - There is a plywood skin on the bottom of the cabinets. The wires are for lights and outlets.

March 2 - The new vegetation does a remarkable job of hiding the Main House. The garage is clearly visible on the left. The Guest House can be seen on the right. The Main House is in the center and not easy to see.

March 6 - A second extension of the irrigation line supplies water to the second group of trees and bushes near the garage.

March 6 - The painters are prepping the doors for spraying in the Guest House. The are also working in the Brays Room.

March 6 - The Laundry Room cabinet has been cut for a four gang switch. The doorway goes to the Breezeway and to the Garage.

March 6 - The Laundry cabinets have been moved up. The center cabinet over the washer and dryer area now has a spacer on either side.

March 6 - The Jr. Master Porch row lock was completed Saturday. It will be screened in the next week or two.

March 9 - The flooring techs are hand scraping the floor where it is needed. The floor is also sanded.

March 9 - This is the Jr. Master Bedroom. Significant voids have been filled with a black filler. It will be hand scraped and sanded to remove the excess before it is finished.

March 9 - The Great Room floor has been vacuumed and is being filled. It will be scraped, sanded, vacuumed and then finished.

March 9 - The sun is shining through dormer windows and hitting the Foyer beam. Obviously, the wall has not been painted yet.

March 9 - The new plants in what was a drive are being watered with the new temporary irrigation lines.

March 9 - A first coat of stain and polyurethane have been put on the Jr. Master Bedroom floor. It is still wet. The photo makes it look darker than it really is.

March 9 - Some of the beech boards were very light in color. Before finishing, the techs stained the very light boards.

March 10 - The floors in the main house have the first coat of stain and poly on them. It was done yesterday and the floor is still wet. This is the Great Room of the Main House.

March 10 - This is the view from the Laundry Room. With the floor still tacky, it can be viewed only from outside doors (or a tiled room in this case). Note the stained tread on the stairs on the right.

March 10 - This is the view from the Kitchen Screened Porch. The floor looks darker in the distance because of the camera flash.

March 10 - Note the cabinets are all covered to protect them from the paint. The brick mason was going to lay bricks to support the grill, but he would have to remove the cabinet masking to lay brick. We would then have to remask everything. Instead, we put the brick mason off for a week.

March 10 - The Guest House is being painted. Work there should be complete in about a week. Once this happens, we will begin trim out in the Guest House.

March 13 - Trim is being installed in the garage. The window trim is similar to that in the Laundry Room.

March 13 - The windows should be complete today. The garage gets window and door casing, baseboard and trim around the attic fold down stairs.

March 15 - The ceiling of the Guest House Great Room is being rolled. The windows have been cleaned. The beams are painted. The walls will be washed (pickled).

March 15 - The Brays Room of the Main House is painted. The windows are being cleaned. The gap between the two wall cabinets will have a hood and tile back splash. A grill will go between the base cabinets.

March 15 - Part of the Main House Brays Room windows have been cleaned. It is a bright beautiful, but cold, day here. The windows look dark because of the bright light outside. They are really a fairly light color.

March 15 - Shoe (the small board at the foot of the baseboard just to the left of the blue tape) is going down on the wood floors. The shoe covers the very small crack between the baseboard and floor.

March 15 - Landscapers are installing steel edging. This will help keep stone close to the building. The stone will minimize splatter on the walls.

March 15 - This is the Main House Master Bedroom Porch. Notice the sand that has been splattered on the bricks by the rain. Gravel inside the steel edging should minimize this.

March 15 - The garage interior has been trimmed. Notice the pull down stairs have also been trimmed. The baseboard is cement board, so moisture from the concrete floor will not damage it.

March 17 - The guest bedroom needs only the flooring installed and then trim out (electrical switches, fans, etc).

March 17 - The Great room looks very nice. The walls are washed (or pickled). The blue wire on the fireplace is a signal wire for the television.

March 17 - The refrigerator goes in the void on the right. A stove and microwave in the void just left of center. The sink has been covered to protect it.

March 17 - This is the great room from the entrance door. The paint is not dark as it appears -- the bright light coming in the window tricks the camera's exposure.

March 17 - The painters are now concentrating on the Main House. The beams are being covered so they don't get painted when the primer and trim paint is sprayed.

March 17 - The Brays Room is (sort of) cleaned. The colors go very well with the cabinets and flooring. The raw wood will be covered with the grill, hood and back splash.

March 17 - The Brays Room is nicely sized. The frame in the foreground is the island. It will be topped with granite in the next few days.

March 17 - Whenever you walk through the Brays Room, the beautiful view grabs your attention. Again, the windows are not very dark. It is just the bright outside light tricking the camera. The windows are not overly clean either.

March 17 - The landscapers put down several tons of stone around the house where roof runoff will splatter the brick. A thin layer of colored rock may be put down on top of the stone. That is why the stone is not to the top of the steel edging.

March 20 - The steel edged beds to catch rain water have been filled with stone. The last load came today.

March 20 - Landscapers hauled away a couple of large trailers full of branches and other debris in the back yard.

March 20 - Each eave has a gravel bed under it to help minimize the splashing. Notice the dirty brick that was splashed before the gravel beds were placed.

March 20 - Windows in the main house have been prepped for priming. Once the walls are primed, the sheet rock tech will come repair any minor dings or imperfections.

March 21 - Tree trimmers are taking down a dead tree that was leaning over the driveway. There is a limb falling that has just been cut.

March 21 - Interior door hardware is being installed in the guest house. Note the door stops on the third hinge up on either side. The laundry closet is on the right. The AV closet is on the left. The AV closet will also have a dead bolt. As soon as the interior doors are finished, the exterior door hardware will be installed. Both jobs should be complete today.

March 21 - Painters are starting to mask the garage. Since the floor will be painted, they are not covering the entire floor - just around the edges.

March 21 - The hanging limb (left over from Hurricane Matthew) has been removed. The bucket truck could barely reach it.

March 21 - Other painters are continuing to prime the walls in the Main House. As soon as the walls are primed, any sheet rock repairs needed will be done.

March 21 - The landscapers are digging ditches for plant irrigation. Currently, the irrigation lines are temporary.

March 23 - The engineered flooring for the two Guest House bedrooms is on site. It will be given a few days to acclimate and installed in about a week.

March 23 - The landscapers dropped off pipe and fittings for the irrigation system. Notice the trenches in the yard.

March 23 - The yellow putty stands out on the primed wood ceiling. Each nail hole and ding was filled. They will be sanded and then painted.
