September 1 - The walls are going up.
September 1 - Although some of the cedar siding has been removed, the house is still intact and closed. The door to the master bedroom will be where the window is located.
September 2 - The window are now framed in (except for the one in the bathroom). The horizontal boards (blocking) are where the plywood panels will be joined on the outside wall. The bottom foot or two of plywood will be treated so if it does get wet, it won't rot.
September 7 - If you look inside the windows, you can see the joists on the ceiling. These are the framework which will hold the sheet rock.

September 8 - The roof framing has now been started. The edge close to the camera will slope like the porch roof.
September 8 - This is how the front roof will look when we get it framed. To the left of the corner are a few ceiling joists that need to be trimmed.
September 8 - The septic man came today and dug up the pump tank. It was a hole about 6 feet deep. You can see how close it was to the well.
September 8 - Here is the pump tank. It is going to be buried at the edge of the trees as far as possible from the house (and well). The work should be finished today if all goes well. We do have a slight chance of rain, and that may slow things a bit.
September 9 - This is how the front of the addition will look. All of the rafters are installed.
September 10 - The subfascia (horizontal board at the end of the rafters) has been installed on three sides. Rafter tie down straps are in place.
September 10 - The septic pumping station is now buried near the trees. It has been reconnected to the house with new wiring and pipes. The addition is not connected yet, but will be when the time is appropriate.

September 10 - The long wall still needs its subfascia. The rear section (towards the screen porch) is covered with plywood as is the extension of the porch roof.
September 13 - The subfascia is completed. The roof plywood is all installed.You can clearly see how the roof will look.

September 13 - This is from beside the screened porch. The blue water tank will be moved to the right. That is also where the outside air conditioner unit and electrical panel (circuit breaker box) will be placed.
September 14 - The electricians mounted and wired the can lights and fan electrical box today. The fan box is on the right. Two (of the six) can lights are on the right. The outlets and most of the switches are also roughed in. The bath light/vent is also installed. You can also see the steel tie down rods on the back wall if you look closely.
September 14 - The silver tape (with rubber backing) helps seal the openings so water cannot infiltrate the wall and cause problems later.
September 14 - This is a photo of 5V roofing. Ignore the screws. This is not the house roof. The house roof (8V) has double inverted 'V's in each location rather than the double and single 'V's that the new room will have. The V size is the same and the spacing is the same. The difference will be very subtle.

September 16 - Here you can almost see the inside air handler. The big black line is the condensation line (with black insulation on it). The air conditioner closest has a light that comes on when the door is opened. You can see the switch hanging on its wire.

September 17 - The windows are installed. Once we pass the nailing inspection (scheduled for Monday), we will put on the house wrap.
September 17 - The plumbing rough in is complete. The tub has been installed. It is a biscuit color. In the photo it looks white. You can see where the tub fill spout and control will be installed. You can also see the air handler on the very left edge of the photo.
September 17 - This is a view from the bathroom door. The black wires on the left edge will connect to the exterior mounted breaker box. Notice the dark colored treated plywood around the bottom of the room. This is to discourage termites and rot where it may be damp (close to the slab). The board running along the bottom of the wall is also treated.
September 17 - Here is a close up of the rotton spindle on the left (looking at the house from the drive) hand rail. Several are rotting, but this one is the worst. Technically (building code), spindles aren't needed at all, so we could just remove them. Probably the best solution would be to replace the rotten ones and have the replacements painted.
September 21 - The foam insulation was sprayed in the walls and ceiling.

September 21 - These are two panels we took off the porch roof. The left ends were under flashing on the roof and protected from the sun. You can see how much the exposed part faded.
September 23 - The first coat of mud went on today. It will take several days to mud and sand and should be done on Monday.
