January 6 - Cabinets arrived last last month. They are stored in two bedrooms.
January 6 - Most of the windows and doors are cased. Crown is going up in the bedrooms. This is guest bedroom #2 in the main house.
January 6 - The lavatory wall in the powder bath has a (thin) brick covering. The supply and drain pipes are visible on the wall.

January 6 - Reclaimed oak flooring is being laid. This is the lake side of the great room. It extends to the kitchen island. The plan is to floor the areas where cabinets will be installed so the cabinet storage areas can be emptied.
January 6 - This is looking down the north hallway. Faux beams have been installed, but not trimmed. Faux columns have also been installed on the window wall (left) and the house wall (right). The baseboard will not be installed until the flooring is down.
January 6 - The lavatory wall of the master bath is made of many pieces of poplar in a double chevron design. The opening in the center is for a recessed mirror. This is the left side.

January 6 - This is a mock up for the foyer walls the home owners selected. The corners will be mitered giving the foyer a very nice look.
January 9 - The last of the three guest bedrooms is getting crown. Once it is finished, the guest bedroom trim will be pretty well finished.
January 9 - Reclaimed oak flooring has been laid where the bath #2 cabinet will be installed.

January 9 - The second wall of the master bath has wood chevrons on it now. The 'frame' in the center will be removed when the mirror is installed.

January 9 - The carpenter is framing a wall in the north gallery. It will have three sets of double doors. The far one is for a coat closet. The other two will have storage shelves in them.
January 10 - The door wall of the north gallery is framed. A short wall separating the coat closet (first set of double doors) from the rest of storage area will be installed Monday. Sheet rock will be hung (and repaired throughout the house mid next week). Double doors are ordered.
January 10 - This is one of the beams in the north gallery. The crown called out is too large (The beam barely shows below the crown). We will get some smaller crown so more of the beam is visible.
January 10 - Steel brackets arrived for the great room (and master sitting room) shelves. They are stout. The part that screws to the wall is solid 1/4-in steel. The support that sticks out to support the shelf is 1/2-in thick steel. These brackets will be used in the master sitting room also.
January 10 - The shelf area in the kitchen is getting trimmed. Reclaimed lumber (matching the floor) forms the soffit and sides. The back will be painted. Lights will be installed where the wiring is. The right most bay has not been finished yet.
January 9 - The breakfast room, kitchen and back kitchen have flooring in them. The flooring effort is finished until we can empty some rooms (a few days).
January 10 - The lavatory wall in the master bath is finished. Mirrors will be installed in the rectangular open areas. Notice the panel over the door (to the master shower on the left and water closet on the right). The door on the right side goes to his closet.
January 10 - Tile is going on the walls of the master shower. The ceiling has been tiled. The master shower has a bench, a line drain and two niches.
January 10 - An access door has been built and installed beneath the master sitting room. It is a two piece door.
January 10 - An identical access door has been installed under bedroom #2 in the main house. Clearly, it is made of two doors. A good bit of fill dirt will be placed here.
January 14 - The tea kitchen sink now has a faucet and drain. The window trim in the background is being painted today.

January 14 - The floors of the guest house have been spot stained and given a final coat. The look is much more even now.
January 14 - Trim carpentry in the main house continues. This is the powder bath. It has crown around the walls now.
January 14 - In the master bath, painters are prepping the walls for paint by filling the nail holes. These walls will be painted because the cabinets will be installed close to, but not touching the side walls. Once the cabinets are installed, it will be difficult to paint the wall beside the cabinet.
January 14 - The master shower tile work is getting finished. The walls are complete. The threshold has been installed. Notice the two niches and the bench.
January 14 - The recessed shelves in the kitchen are taking shape. The dark wood is reclaimed wood that is similar to the flooring. Each opening will have several shelves. The bottom of the recess is not complete yet.
January 15 - This is one of the recessed areas in the great room. It now has a soffit and can lights have been repositioned. There will be no under counter lights since the shelves will be copper clad. The black bars are to support the shelves. They will appear to be floating.
January 15 - The kitchen shelves now have reclaimed wood on the bottom. The plywood shelves will be clad in reclaimed wood. You can see a piece of reclaimed wood on the bottom shelf. The casing and back panel will be painted trim color.
January 15 - Most of the kitchen and breakfast room walls have panels.
January 15 - Much of the crown in the guest wing of the home is completed. The carpenters are now working in the master vestibule. The large black opening on the ceiling is an HVAC air return.
January 15 - Painters are painting the master bath chevron wall. A mirror will be installed in the area where the raw wood is showing.
January 15 - The wall on the eastern side is primed. Both of these walls will be painted with oil based paint for a very smooth, slick finish.

January 16 - The panel detail under the windows looks very nice. This sort of paneling is used in many places in the house.
January 16 - The kitchen shelves are taking shape. The bottom two shelves are finished. The top two and the right most bay (not in the photo) need to be finished. Everything should be done tomorrow.
January 16 - The shelves are being built for the great room. They will be covered with copper. The shelves will slide on the steel supports, so they will appear to 'float.' The shelves are 3 inches thick, 12 inches wide and 10 feet long. They will stop about 5 inches from the side walls. The back wall will have sheet rock and wallpaper.
January 18 - The foyer has a wood ceiling with beams. Part of the wood ceiling is now installed.
January 18 - Sheet rock is on the north gallery. The first opening will be a coat closet. The next two are storage closets. Each will have a double door on it.
January 18 - The niches in the great room will have copper covered shelves. The shelves will slide on the steel supports so they will appear to be floating. The shelves will be about 5 inches from either end wall. The drywall walls will get wallpaper. The ceiling will be reclaimed wood.
January 18 - Fill dirt is in the patio area. The tile on the left is for the fire pit. The patio is about 72 feet long. It will have seating around most of the perimeter with openings where it meets the house. There will be a round fire pit near the jut out.
January 18 - The fire pit will be built over the tile. The bottom will be filled with gravel for drainage.
January 18 - The back porch is painted. The ceilings are a traditional light blue color.
January 18 - Concrete was poured in the afternoon. It was challenging getting mixers to the patio because of the wet ground and tight quarters.

January 24 - Beams that were previously built are being installed in the kitchen and breakfast room. The wire in the foreground is for one (of two) pendant lights over the bar.
January 24 - The ceiling of the south vestibule is trimmed. Sheet rock is repaired from moving two HVAC boots.
January 24 - This is a scaled mock up of the beams for the master bedroom The actual beams will be made of 2x10 lumber. There are two full beams in the center of the room and half beams at either end.
January 24 - Part of the dropped ceiling is visible over the carpenter's head. The signal and power wire for the television is on the right side of the photo. The television will be on a lift so it will go up into the ceiling part way when it is not being viewed.
January 24 - The large chevrons in the foyer are being assembled. There is a small recessed area between the wide boards.
January 25 - The foyer chevrons are being installed. This is tedious work to cut the pieces precisely.
January 25 - The fire pit brick has been laid. The tan brick inside are fire brick. Bricks around the top are each cut wedge shaped. They will be grouted once they are all laid. The fire pit has a 4ft-10in outside diameter.
January 25 - This a a view looking south from the outdoor kitchen. The block wall will be seating around the patio. The floor of the patio will be slate to match the porch floors.
January 25 - Ceiling beams are up in the kitchen. They are not all trimmed yet. The two wires are for lights over the island.
January 25 - The master bedroom drop ceiling is being framed. The opening on the right side in the center is where the television lift will be installed. Scaffolding is visible on the left edge of the photo.
January 31 - The doors are being painted black. This door was not masked as well as it should have been so the trim will be touched up.
January 31 - The foyer chevrons are being built. The lead carpenter helped the other trim crew with some beams yesterday, so did not get to work in the foyer. Cutting the boards precisely is tedious and takes concentration.
January 31 - The ceiling beams in the master bedroom have been erected. The ceiling, clearly, has not been installed yet. It will be 1x6 butt board pine like in the great room. (The carpenter's tool belt hanging on the beam is temporary.)
January 31 - There is a half beam on each gable end and two full beams in the center. One of the full beams is visible at the very top of the photo.

January 31 - The doors are being masked for painting. All of the doors will be black. This includes the exterior doors, garage auto bay doors and interior doors.
January 31 - The 'seat' top is being poured today. This will be polished concrete. There is an opening at either end of the patio like the one visible in the lower right part of the photo.
January 31 - The masons are pouring the concrete. They are past the fire pit and continuing to the north end. They drilled weep holes in the wall ever couple of blocks so water won't stand on the porch.
