August 2 - The front door opening has been closed for the blower door test. The front door assembly is due to be installed in a couple of weeks.
August 2 - Temporary steps have been built for easy access to the house since the front door is closed.
August 2 - The electrician is hooking temporary power to the house so the air conditioners can be started to reduce the humidity.
August 7 - The pantry pocket door is framed. The track is visible at the top. We use only heavy duty tracks (rated for 400 pound doors) for pocket doors.
August 7 - Gypsum board has arrived. It will be hung within a few days.
August 7 - The gypsum board was distributed through the house. This is the pocket door between the master bath and master bedroom. The white insulation is on exterior walls. The red insulation is sound insulation.
August 7 - In order to trim the steel beams, we had to drill and bolt material to the beams.
August 10 - Blocks have been delivered to the septic area. This lot requires a raised septic drain field.
August 10 - The footers are dug for the 30 foot square containment area.
August 10 - Hanging gypsum (dry wall) on the 23 foot high ceiling was a challenge.
August 10 - The corner of the office is complex looking because of the roof and enclosing HVAC ducting.
August 14 - Steel rebar has been placed in the footers per DHEC guidelines.
August 14 - Tile for the floors and showers have arrived. Tile work should begin in a few days.
August 14 - Sheetrock is being finished. The flat ceiling at the top is over 23 feet off the floor.
August 16 - Outdoor HVAC units are being installed and powered on. The light gray device is a whole house generator.
August 16 - The chimney cap has been installed.
August 16 - The garage has two out door HVAC units. The smaller one is for a mini-split air conditioner in the shop area. The larger unit is for the living quarters upstairs.
August 16 - The deck framing has been painted. Decking boards are ordered and will be installed when they arrive (in about a week).
August 17 - Blocks, sand and mortar are in place for the septic drain field walls. They will be laid on Tuesday, August 21.
August 17 - Footers are poured for the raised drain field.
August 20 - Grass was stripped off the ground inside the footers. 6 yards of sand was added and tilled into the soil pursuant to DHEC rules.
August 20 - Brick, mortar and sand have arrived for the fireplace. Thin brick for interior walls was also delivered (on porch).
August 21 - The footer for the raised bed drain field has a 1 x 4 keyway in it to insure the blocks don't move.
August 23 - The block walls are up. They will be filled with concrete today. There is a 3-in sleeve in the wall for the pipe to enter. When the system is complete, it will be completely covered with dirt (and soon grass).
August 23 - The front door has been sealed again so the air conditioner could be started to reduce the humidity. The permanent door will be installed in a week or so.
August 23 - The poplar trim material is on site. Trim work will begin just as soon as the interior doors are hung.
August 23 - The ship lap siding for the mud room walls is on site. It will be installed as the trim is being installed.
August 23 - The decking material has arrived. It will be installed in a few days.
August 23 - Steel has been placed in the bond beam blocks. This will provide extra strength for the walls.
August 23 - Masons are working on the interior fireplace.
August 23 - Concrete is being poured into the cores of the block walls around the raised drain field.
August 23 - The block wall is being poured. It is 40 inches high as required.
August 23 - The block walls are being poured and cleaned up. They will cure for 14 days then the inside will be filled with 100 cubic yards of sand.
August 24 - The bricks on the fireplace are finished. It will have a painted wood wrap around mantle.
August 24 - The gas shut off valve (for gas logs if they are used) is on the left side of the fireplace.
August 24 - More interior doors are being hung. The carpenters will focus on interior trim once the doors are installed.
August 24 - The great room is really great - over 23 feet tall. It makes the 8 foot tall door look short.
August 27 - The garage auto bay doors were installed last week. They will have power to them in a few days.
August 27 - The workshop has a six foot wide garage door.
August 27 - This kitchen wall will have brick. It will be getting concrete board soon. The small space to the left of the half wall also gets brick.
August 27 - The interior doors have been hung.
August 28 - Window casing is being installed. it is poplar and will be painted.
August 28 - The shower has kerdi board in preparation for tile.
August 28 - The walk in closet in the master bath has casing on the door.
